We all get colds and flu from time to time, but the only sure-fire way to keep healthy and protect your immunity is through the tried and tested combination of a good, nutritious diet, regular exercise and quality sleep.

During the colder months, it’s important to choose foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals to help strengthen our immune system. We’ve picked 5 great, nutritious foods that we think our super for boosting your immunity.

Sunflower seeds

Packed with natural goodness and high in anti-oxidants, these little rays of sunshine can be found in most of our mixes. In their natural state they have a lovely creamy texture and mild flavour and once toasted they have a wonderful nuttiness that makes them hard to resist.

Sunflower seeds can be found in all Munchy Seeds products.

Citrus fruits

Fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruits are an excellent source of vitamin C, which is a great natural vitamin for preventing colds and flu like symptoms.

Ginger

Ginger is an amazing food for reducing inflammation which is great for soothing sore throats.

Add grated ginger, honey and lemon juice to hot water and stir well.

Yoghurt

Plain natural yoghurt is great for fighting diseases and good gut health.

We recommend adding a heaped tablespoon of yoghurt to fresh berries and topping off with a sprinkle of seeds.

Nuts

Nuts, such as almonds, are packed with essential vitamins and healthy fats that are important for preventing colds and flu.

We recommend making your own granola at home using oats,  seeds, nuts, coconut and dried fruit.
